Sheltered: intervista agli sviluppatori

Federica: Why did you choose to create a survival post-apocalitic strategy game? What did inspire you?
Sonny: We’ve always been fans of the original Fallout series, and this is one of our main inspirations. We wanted to create a game where the player really cares about the outcome of the family, and a post-apocalyptic environment seemed like the perfect setting to test this relationship.

F: The only pourpose of the game is to keep alive and safety your own family in the bunker. Could you explain how and why didi the family get in the bunker? If someone seized the bunker, the family could survive outside or it”l be necessary restart the game, maybe with a permadeth?
S: The family knew there was an incoming nuclear bombardment, and so it was necessary to get into the Shelter and protect themselves.  There are definitely bad people out in the wasteland that would love nothing more than to take the comforts of the shelter from you, and if the family are killed, that’s it. The story ends. So in short, yes, permadeath is a feature of this game.

F: Why did you choose to let begin the game before the nuclear holocaust? How the unlucky people could react to raids and eventual privileges of those who snaped up something?
S: We thought it would create very tense, dramatic gameplay for the player to start at a shopping mall, trying to battle other potential survivors for as many supplies as they can carry. Survival brings out the very worst in humanity, and the best. It’s this dynamic that we really wanted to feature in the game.
It’s also very powerful to show the world before the holocaust, and how damaging the effects are afterwards.

F: Shelter has been approved by Steam Greenlight community and many gamers era enthusiastic about it. Did you expect a similar success?
S: The Steam community has been incredible. It’s pretty unusual to get Greenlit so quickly, so that was a massive boost to our egos! It was a very rewarding experience for us to know that people liked the idea enough to vote for it. It’s also amazing to know we have secured the biggest distribution platform on the internet when the game is finished.

F:   Would you like to say someting to your followers or to the ones who doesn’t know your project?
S: To anyone that’s curious about why this game has the potential to be something great: We’re two very, very enthusiastic gamers ourselves, with what we believe to be good tastes in games. We know what people want to play, and I hope they like what they see, and know that we’re looking forward to playing it as much as anyone else! To our followers and supports:  It’s because of your help that we get to follow our dreams, and create a game that can bring joy to many. It means the absolute world to us that we’ve got so many people willing to give us their support.
